A year ago I was driving on a dusty old road to nowhere near Winnemucca, NV. I ran across a sign indicating that the Old California Trail ran through this area. I had to learn more about the trail and the emigrants who traveled it.
This book is great history for people who have an interest in pioneer travel and the by: 7. The book is very useful for planning and also as a mile by mile guide while actually on a trail.
He rates trails by difficulty and also notes his favorites for scenery. Using those two criterion, I have planned two trips with great success. I own and have used five of his guide books - Moab, Colorado North and Central, California and Arizona/5().
Great collection of hiking trail covering the entire state of California. This book does a great job of getting you to the trail (driving/walking directions) as well as describing what to expect once you reach the trail. My only complaint (very minor) is that the book includes too many ultra-short trails/5(42).
